Our board members and committee members nominated a plethora of individuals and organizations who exemplify the best qualities Syracuse has to offer. These awards could have been given to many deserving candidates and it was a difficult choice. However we are extremely proud to announce the following honorees:
The 2015 Believe in Syracuse Individual Award goes to Mary Nelson!
Mary has been a community organizer for a decade in Syracuse advocating for youth and against crime and violence in her neighborhood. Last year she organized her 13th annual back to school backpack giveaway for kids in the inner city of Syracuse.
The 2015 Believe in Syracuse Organization Award goes to Say Yes to Education!
Say Yes is a non-profit foundation committed to dramatically increasing high school and college graduation rates for urban students. It includes all stakeholders such as the city school district, Onondaga County, the City of Syracuse, SU, OCC and others. Say Yes has placed nearly 2,000 SCSD students in 2 and 4 year colleges since the fall of 2009!
At our Birthday Party January 29th Mary Nelson and Pat Driscol, Director of Say Yes Syracuse will speak and accept their awards. We will be donating volunteer hours to each award recipient as well as $200 of free advertising on BelieveInSyracuse.org to promote the great work they do.
There are so many great things happening here in Syracuse, from Say Yes to the Buy Local movement, to Economic Development happening downtown and the way we care for the homeless and hungry in our community. We know that whether we like it or not, we're all connected as a community. Syracuse is on the rise but our future is dependant on you.
Please join us 15 days from now at Sky Armory for our 2nd Birthday Party and make a statement that we're all in this together. Click here for more info and to RSVP or follow either URL below.
